WHAT IS IT?

MTN introduces 3.5G Mobile Broadband, MTN’s high-speed mobile data service. MTN 3.5G Mobile Broadband service opens up a whole new dimension of fast and simple working and harnesses the advantages of mobility, taking internet access in Nigeria to a whole new level. It helps you stay connected at almost any time, and makes your business and personal information and entertainment as mobile as you are, when you're working within MTN’s coverage areas.
With 3.5G Broadband MTN customers will benefit from download data speed up to 4-5 times faster than currently available, offering for the first time a mobile experience that can truly be described as broadband.
Where 3G HSDPA coverage is not available, customers will be able to use MTN’s GPRS/EDGE network that already covers most of Nigeria!

BENEFITS!

Our high speed 3.5G Mobile Broadband service:
  • Is available to all our customers, as soon as you join the MTN network
  • Is simple and easy to use.
  • Gives you broadband speeds without the need for cables
  • Lets you access the Internet from your home, office, car, the beach and everywhere you go within MTN’s 3.5G coverage.

HOW DO I GET?

All new and existing customers’ MTN SIMs are automatically enabled to enjoy 3.5G Mobile Broadband. So you don’t need to do a SIM Swap! All you need to do is to decide which device you want to access the 3.5G data services on, and which data plan you would like to enjoy.

SETTINGS

  • Any device you use needs to be configured to use MTN’s Data Network (the same settings apply to GPRS and 3.5G).
  • Account Name = MTN GPRS
  • IP Address = 10.199.212.2
  • Port = 9201 (for WAP) or 8080 (for HTML)
  • Username = web

  • Access Point Name (APN) = web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Not to worry, your MTN-branded USB modem or MTN-branded Data Card is already configured with the above settings. Also, if you currently enjoy browsing using your 3.5G enabled handset on the MTN GPRS network, then chances are that your handset is already configured for MTN Data with the above settings. If you are not sure, then simply text SETTINGS free of charge to 3888 – for all handsets that are manufactured to allow over-the-air updates, you will automatically receive the required settings for your handset. For handsets that cannot be configured in this way (e.g. most Windows-based handsets), you will need to configure the data settings on your handset with the settings information provided above.

  • The resource used (e.g device type) being used to access the mobile data service.
  • The availability of the server being accessed (internet site, mail server, etc.)

DATA PLANS/BUNDLES

MTN offers you a variety of economical data tariffs to choose from. You may decide to use the MTN Mobile Data service on a Pay-per-use basis (according to your existing tariff plan) basis. You may also choose to buy a Data Bundle/Plan. Either way, you are not charged for the amount of time you spend, but for the amount of data (volume) that you upload or download when using the MTN 3.5G or GPRS Data Service. Data bundles are ideal if you have an idea of how much you want to spend on data as well as how much data you need. These bundles have been designed to reduce the cost of data usage provided you stay within the bundle limits.
Each data bundle has an in-bundle rate and an out-of-bundle rate. You pay a flat fee for all data in-bundle, but as soon as your in-bundle limit for your subscription type is exceeded, the out-of-bundle rate will apply per MB.
Once you have identified the prepaid bundle plan that best suits you, simply text the migration code for the plan to 131 (see table below) and you will be switched immediately to the bundle plan of your choice and the corresponding migration fee deducted from your account. You will also receive a message on your phone confirming successful migration.

ktravula – a travelogue! On Language, Writing, Travel and Other things Morning in Ife I’m on a quasi-field trip around some rural cities in Nigeria along with two linguists from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. I have been out of internet access for a few days now and might be for a little while more. I will do all I can to keep updating this blog as often as I can, but I can’t promise that it will be every day. I do have my own internet connection but this trip is proving to be a new adventure in discovering just how much “national coverage” the so-called internet service providers have. I’ve been in Ife for a few days now, and I will be in Akungba tomorrow. I’m heading northwards and northwards until I reach whoknowswhere , or I get tired and decide to head back. Thanks to all who asked after me, and those who never left the blog even for one day. This is heart-warming. Greetings from Ife, the accla...

Relevance of Rural Traditional Religion To Contemporary Development

OUTLINE Introduction Concept of rural traditional religion Theoretical Framework The relevance of rural traditional religion contemporary Nigeria development Conclusion References ABSTRACT Contemporary global trends and the influence of western civilization have undermined the role which indigenous traditional religion plays towards national development. Overtime, people have had a preconceived or negative notion of what traditional religion is all about. This may be attributed to our socialization process and fake historical records of earlier missionary who view Africa as a land of no history, the generation of Essau who has been cursed. In order to dispute this assertion, this article examines the role of traditional religion toward national development. It argues that, the fact that some people use image as a means of communication to God does not mean they have nothing to contribute to the knowledge of God. Therefore, every religion must be appreciated in its own sense. In esse...
