Laptop Repair Parts Links And Resources

Just a little bit of info when sourcing laptop repair parts -

Be careful when attempting to do any sort of part replacement in your laptop that involves purchasing any model specific parts, i.e. any PCB replacement big or small. Because of subtle differences between models sold in different parts of the world not all internal parts are the same even if your model name or number is.

It's best to consult a technician who is familiar with the brand of notebook you have, do this by starting with the manufacturer's recommended or authorised repairers.

Below is a list of links for parts for some of the major notebook and laptop computer manufacturers. Use these links to track down repair parts and to compare prices between suppliers.

ktravula – a travelogue! On Language, Writing, Travel and Other things Morning in Ife I’m on a quasi-field trip around some rural cities in Nigeria along with two linguists from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. I have been out of internet access for a few days now and might be for a little while more. I will do all I can to keep updating this blog as often as I can, but I can’t promise that it will be every day. I’ve been in Ife for a few days now, and I will be in Akungba tomorrow. I’m heading northwards and northwards until I reach whoknowswhere , or I get tired and decide to head back. Thanks to all who asked after me, and those who never left the blog even for one day. This is heart-warming. Greetings from Ife, the accla...

How To Repair Your Laptop Power Plug / Jack

It's almost inevitable that you'll need to repair your laptop power plug if you own a Toshiba Satellite A70 unless you've already had the main board replaced in which Toshiba have applied a well overdue modification similar to what you’ll see here. The DC jacks on these units are weakened over time with general use and become unstable and loose, in some cases detaching themselves from the main board altogether. In the one we have pictured the plug detached from the board completely and had to be resoldered and modified due to the rear pin connection breaking away from the plug. You can see the red wire which had to be added to replace the broken pin, this won't always have to be done. Once the plug has had all of its board mounted points resoldered it is advisable to add an epoxy resin around the outer edge of the plug to fix it to the main board, this will minimise movement when the adapter is plugged into it. I generally use Araldite. Toshiba...
